Alphonse Van Beurden was a student at the Antwerp Academy, where he was a student of Joseph Geefs and Edouard Dujardin ( 1868-1881). He was awarded 1st prize for sculpture in 1874 and 1877, but later taught drawing at the same academy. He also worked with Jef Lambeaux. In 1884, he became a member of “Als ik kan”. “If I can”), an association of artists active from 1883 to 1952; he sculpted busts of the members.
