Verona Red Marble high relief depicting St. George on horseback and the dragon, worked and carved by hand.
Provenance Venice, private collection.
The legend tells that this Saint killed the monster because the latter killed people with his breath, asking in exchange to the citizens to convert and get baptized.
In particular this sculpture was coupled with another one representing St. Michael (they were often depicted together). To underline the care of details and particulars (incredible fineness of the face, hands, horse and clothes), the majesty of the creation transmits strength and light.
Above the veining and patina of marble, a real wedding favor.
Of excellent workmanship and high quality craftsmanship, lot more unique than rare.
Perfect proportions, sculpture of generous measures and weight quite high, however, all this makes this masterpiece is unique and exclusive in its kind.
Optimal if hung on the wall, although the work can stand even without supports.
Magnificent and spectacular throughout, classic representation of good fighting and overcoming evil.
It is in excellent overall condition, completely intact in all its parts.
In case of shipment will be shipped with sturdy wooden crate and appropriate packaging to ensure the complete integrity.
